These wonderful, colorful creatures roam freely in the streets, fields and backyards of every Italian town. Their voices summon the morning and punctuate the day. They astutely navigate busy narrow streets, staying on the grass verges and observing their terrain. Each one a character, full of personality, loyal to their clan and curious of their world. These photos were taken in the Veneto in the small villages of Veggiano and Saccolongo but reflect many backyards and grass verges in Italy.
This beauty belonged to our neighbors - we named her Helena. She would sometimes fly over the fence to be with Grace.
There were plenty of other colorful ones to observe.
